Hot Cocoa Swap - Topic of the week

Now that we're in the thick of 'Winter'... has your knitting changed to match the season? Are you moving on from dishcloths, and tank tops to afghans, hats and mittens? Has your yarn changed from silk or cotton to wool, superwash or heavier cottons?

Well, to answer th
is honestly, yes my knitting would normally change, but I am stuck on a pair of never ending socks that just don't want to get finished. When I had to rip the beginning of sock #2 out and restart it, I got frustrated. And I started to dislike this sock. I knitted on it last night at Bella Vita and I have made it down to the arch of the foot, so I really don't have much longer to go. Crossing my fingers in the hopes of working on it Sunday at work. But I do have a sweater planned as my next project. I want to knit it in superwash wool (so I don't inadvertently shrink another project). I have not bought or knit anything in silk yet, although I would like to try it out someday. I even looked at some wool/silk blend yarn for my sweater, before I decided to get superwash instead. I bought some silk hankies to try to spin, but they are still sitting in my stash. About the only thing I have ever knitted in cotton is dishcloths. Although the socks I made for the Monkey Sock Swap were a cotton/bamboo blend. It had a real nice feel to it.

Glad you had a good weekend. My cats have been antagonizing each other lately, too...maybe it's going around? I've been meaning to ask if you've ever read the Elm Creek Quilts books by Jennifer Chiaverini? I'm re-reading them right now, and love all the quilting history and descriptions worked into the books.

You spin too! Do you have a wheel or a drop spindle?

Dear YSP,

I only have a drop spindle. Someday, I want a spinning wheel, but I'm still looking.

hello moon goddess,

i'm sorry it's taken me so long to do this, but i'm going to try to post the molasses cookie recipe, which is from the Mrs. Fields Cookie Book:

ingredients:
3 1/4 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp allspice
1 c. dark brown sugar, packed
1 c. (2 sticks) butter
3/4 c. unsulfured molasses
1 large egg
1 1/2 c. raisins

Icing:
1 c. confectioners sugar
2 tbsp. milk

preheat oven to 300.
in a medium bowl, combine flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and allspice. Whisk together well.

In a large bowl, bet together sugar and butter with electric mixer at medium speed until mixture forms a grainy paste. Scrape sides of bowl, then add molasses and egg, and beat till light and fluffy.

Add flour mixture and raisins, and blend at low speed till just combined. Do not overmix.

Divide dough in half and shape each half into a roll 1 1/2 inches in diameter; wrap rolls in wax paper and refirgerate until firm, 2 hours -overnight--dough will be very sticky.

Slice unbaked cookies 1/2 inch thick and place on ungreased cookie sheets (a sheet of parchment paper is a good addition), 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake for 25-27 minutes until cookies are set. Immediately transfer cookies w/spatula to cool surface.

To prepare icing, blend confectioners sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth and drizzle over cooled cookies with spoon or knife.

c'est voila.
